Why You Need An iPhone

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Ever since the introduction of the Apple iPhone, there has been a huge public response to this product. Millions of people are proclaiming the wonders and beauty of this cell phone, iPod, calendar and mobile Internet device. However, the real question is, why do you need to have an iPhone? Of course, it seems that it is a great product because it streamlines your electronic productivity and allows you to have many products wrapped up into one, but what are the real perks to having an iPhone? The answer to this question really depends on who you ask. However, there are many actual reasons why the iPhone is a great purchase.

The first reason why having an iPhone is a good idea is because it helps to streamline your life. There is no denying that many of us live a very hectic and extremely busy life. We rarely have time to relax, nonetheless running around the house looking for your cell phone, iPod and PDA. However, when you have an iPhone you are actually getting all of these electronics, in one slim and sophisticated product. Many people who used to carry around two or three electronic devices are thrilled at how easy and convenient their iPhone actually is.

They no longer have to worry about running out of pocket space for your mobile devices, thus they are able to move throughout their life without having to worry about leaving their iPod at their friends house or their cell phone at the restaurant. With the iPhone, everything is packaged in a beautiful, and one-of-a-kind, device.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Another reason why you actually need an iPod is because you are able to have the world at your fingertips, literally. Unlike other cell phones, which allow you to look at a dumb-down version of the Internet, with the iPhone, you are actually surfing the net. If you have never been able to access the Internet while sitting in traffic, or looking up your friend’s MySpace profile on a whim, than you do not understand how great it is to be able to access the World Wide Web on a moments notice. This constant availability to information is a great feature, and once you have it you will never want to own an internet-less cell phone again.

Because so many of us have jobs across town, and friends that live on the other side of the city, we are always in our cars. But what happens when you are asked to go somewhere, and you don’t know where it’s at? Normally, you get on the Internet and MapQuest it, however, if you have an iPhone, than accurate directions to any destination is only a few ‘taps’ away. When you have an iPhone, than you automatically gain access to the powerful mapping service, Google Maps, and it is with this application you can find your local pizza joint, Starbucks or even Public Library. One of the coolest features is not the fact that you can get directions to this location, but you can also call them too.

Say you typed in “Starbucks,” you would then be shown the closest Starbucks to where you are currently at. You can then call them and place your order, or ask them questions about their coffee. Very rarely will you find a device that not only connects you to your world, but also brings you closer to it. With technology seemingly pushing the “world” further away, it is extremely refreshing to find a mobile device that connects you with those around you in such a dynamic way.

When Globes Can Be Useful

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Globes are maps, which are three-dimensional. They show the world as it truly is, round. When looking at a flat map of the earth, a person gets an unclear perception of the earth and the distance between places. When the world is depicted on a flat surface, the information contained on it is distorted, for instance, places are stretched out and may appear much larger then they really are

For children learning about the world, a globe is a wonderful tool in teaching them about our Earth, where places are located, and how far apart they are. They can get a clear understanding that our Earth is one great big ball that is connected on all sides, not a flat that ends on either side. In the days of Columbus, it was argued that the earth was flat, while this idea seems silly now, for small children who have never been introduced to a globe but have seen maps may very easily get the same impression.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Travel Maps, keep reading.

Globes are not only useful for teaching children about the world, they are also important for travelers. Many people do not realize how useful globes can be when planning a trip, particularly by air. Traditionally it is said that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However, people that have looked at flight paths before, see that airlines very rarely set out on a straight line they curve. Why is that? You would think that the airline would want to get to the destination as quickly as possible. The fact is they are, usually. Try this experiment if a globe or other ball is available. Decide on a starting point and an end point. Pull a string from each point in a straight line, and measure how long the string is, and then do the same thing only adding a curve, taking after a typical flight plan. You will see that the amount of string used this time is shorter. The reason for this is the simple fact, the world is round, and the shortest distance between two points on a round object is a curved line.

Most people would not dream of carrying a globe with them in place of an easy to fold, travel map, and with good reason. Globes are bulky and do not have the detailed information needed to travel from one point to the next. That is not what they are meant for. Travel maps are the appropriate choice for people who need to know how to get from one place to the next. A globes purpose is to show where places are in relation to each other, in a global sense.

Each type of map, whether flat or round is meant for a specific purpose and used to obtain different types of information. Just as it would be silly to use a globe in place of a good road map while traveling by car, it is clear that it would be just as silly for airlines to use a flat map when deciding on flight paths.

Now might be a good time to write down the main points covered above. The act of putting it down on paper will help you remember what’s important about Travel Maps.

Medications Used for the Sleep Disorder of Chronic Insomnia

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The best course of action to take sometimes isn’t clear until you’ve listed and considered your alternatives. The following paragraphs should help clue you in to what the experts think is significant.

People that suffer from the sleep disorder of chronic insomnia must decide whether or not they are going to take a sleep medication. This decision is usually made with their physician. Many people decide to take a sleeping pill because it offers relief from the symptoms of their sleep disorder and the extreme sleepiness they are always feeling. Taking a pill can improve how they fell and also the quality of their life. However, many people worry about the side effects and health risks that come with taking sleeping pills. Sleeping pills are among the most widely used drugs in the United States, and their use continues to increase.

The types of sleep medications that are available to people with insomnia fall into two categories, prescription and over-the-counter medications. Each sleep medication affects the body differently. The effectiveness of the sleeping pill is a major factor when dealing with sufferers of this sleep disorder. How quickly the pill will take effect and how long the effect will last are very important. The effect should match the individual’s sleep problem. The fast acting drugs would benefit a person who has difficulty falling asleep while a longer lasting pill would better benefit someone who has difficulty staying asleep.
Other important factors concerning medications for people with this sleep disorder include the impact the medication has on sleep quality, the tolerance that a person has for the drug, the possibility of developing a dependence on the drug, and the side effects associated with the drug. Each of these points has to be considered when deciding to take sleep medication for chronic insomnia.

Many over-the-counter sleep medications contain some type of antihistamine as a primary active ingredient. Antihistamines are widely used to treat allergies and they are also effective in helping people fall asleep. However, there has been little research done on their long-term effectiveness or safety.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Sleep Disorders. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

Prescription medications for the sleep disorder of chronic insomnia are classified into four general groups: benzodiazepine receptor agonists, antidepressants, melatonin receptor agonists, and barbiturates. Each one of these drug groups has specific benefits in regards to treating insomnia. However, it is very important that the right type of for chronic insomnia medication is prescribed for each individual person with this sleep disorder.

Before choosing a sleeping medication, it is very important to determine the source of the insomnia. For example, perhaps the source of the insomnia is the result of another treatable illness, or a side effect of a medication that is taken. The insomnia is then called secondary insomnia. The focus on medication should then be on the primary illness. Often the insomnia will disappear once the underlying cause is treated.

The decision of whether or not to take sleep mediation for chronic insomnia has to be a personal decision. There is no right or wrong decision. However, it is important, if the choice is to take a medication for this sleep disorder, to become as educated as possible about the medication prescribed.

There’s a lot to understand about Sleep Disorders. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

Starting Your Own Personal Assistant Service Business

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

You have probably heard of cleaning services. They drop by your home once a week or more depending on the arrangement and they fix up the place for a certain fee. Did you know that there are personal assistant services as well?

But what does a personal assistant service actually do? Someone from their office will deliver or pick up personal items, wait for contractors, deliveries or installations in your home, shop for gifts, groceries and other items, take your car for repair or cleaning, take your pet to the vet, arrange business or personal travel, simply your way of paying bills and organize your home or office space.

Since you don’t need the personal assistant service all the time, you can simply call them up and only pay them for the number of hours rendered. Some companies have a flat rate for an hour or two which is more than enough to get a simple task done when you are busy doing something else.

You can find a personal assistant service online or through the phone directory and be happy to know that most of these are bonded and insured.

Given that the idea of a personal assistant service is not hard to do, you can make one yourself if there are not that many yet where you live. In fact, you can start by doing this at home and then when you take the call, you do the work or have some other people do it for you.

The skills you need to have to get into the personal assistant service business are not that difficult. You and your team should be internet savvy, knowledgeable about the latest gadgets, be able to do some basic financing and be well organized.

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Personal Assistant. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

You then advertise to your neighbors and friends about your business and hopefully get referrals whenever it is needed.

The amount you charge depends on the kind of service you are providing. The best way is to aim for an annual salary so if you are able to finish the job in a much shorter time than expected, what you earn stays the same.

But if you are just establishing your presence in the market, it is best to charge hourly. You can charge extra when your services extend beyond the agreed upon time. Be sure to put everything written in a contract and have them sign it. You should be paid for your services the minute that the job is done. When things pick up, you can demand that clients should pay for this a month in advance.

Don’t forget to be bonded and insured so you will never be accused of theft if something is missing. You should also apply for disability and insurance to protect yourself and the people you send over.

To make yourself credible, you should have a bank reference and belong to the small business association, better business bureau or the chamber of commerce. After working with a few clients, use them as your reference since the client will probably do a background check and feel safe knowing you are a legitimate business.

Having a personal assistant service business is great since you don’t have to work everyday. You get a job whenever the phone rings while the rest of the time, you get to relax and enjoy doing some other activities.

Newer is not Always Better When it Involves Search Engine Optimization

Friday, October 9th, 2009

We live in a world where everybody wants the latest and greatest, somewhere along the way we have come to the conclusion that the newer something is the better. If we are buying a CD it has to be the latest release from the new one hit wonder, we don’t care if the song writer couldn’t tell melody from harmony or that the singer is incapable of carrying a tune, all that matters is that it’s new. Each fall hundreds of people scramble to get to car dealerships, frantic to drive the next years models, barely capable of waiting for them to be unloaded off the truck, it doesn’t matter if we are six months behind on car payments on last years model which is in perfect running condition, we’re blinded by all the bells and whistles that the new cars have to offer. People will stand in a long line, overnight, in an electrical storm to simply to spend an unhealthy amount of money on the latest electronic gadget just because it is brand new, we don’t care that in just a few months it will be a fraction of the cost, we have to have it now.

Even internet service suffers from the right now syndrome. For years we were content with dialup service. Sure it was slow but it was that or nothing. Heck we hardly noticed that it took hours to download a simple, days to upload a couple of pictures, download a video… that was practically unheard off. We didn’t know any better. Now that the world has found out about all the new options for internet service we have to have that. It doesn’t matter that it is double the monthly cost or we have to default on are student loans in order to purchase the necessary equipment. If it is cordless, faster, and designed with the latest technology we have to have it…right now.

We don’t care if the old stuff is made with better materials, last longer, and is cheaper. In our minds old equals junk.

Search engine optimization is one spot where we should force ourselves to shed our weird inhibitions about old stuff. When it comes to search engine optimization, age rules over youth.

Now that we’ve covered those aspects of Search Engine Optimization, let’s turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

Search engine optimization is the art and science of making web pages attractive to the search engines. The more attractive a web site appears (search engines are attracted, not to beauty, but to repetitious algorithms) the higher it ranks in the search engines search result. A low ranking could potentially be the kiss of death to an internet based business because studies have shown the internet users seldom look past the second page of hits.

Search engines use web crawlers to determine a websites ranking.

Older websites and the webmasters who manage them have had more time to develop and maintain their algorithms. They are already itemized and ranked by the search engines, in some cases it can take three months for a web crawler to get around to spidering a brand new website that has been submitted to the search engine, old sites are already appearing and gaining customer recognition. If an older site has been around long enough to have earned a loyal customer base, even if a shuffle in the rankings causes the aged web site to be bumped from prime ranking position, loyal customers will still look for it.

If you’ve picked some pointers about Search Engine Optimization that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.

Importance Of Time Management

Monday, October 5th, 2009

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Time Management. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Time Management.

When a person learns time management skills, it will help them to spend more time on more difficult tasks. Because of everyday time constraints, we need to learn how to make the most of our time with our work by doing more important tasks.

Time Management Effectiveness

We handle many different fields depending on what we do. There are many time management techniques that would prove useful for several fields of life. For example, a student can learn and practice time management by applying time management techniques when doing their homework or projects. Using time management techniques and practices can and will help to ensure the quality use of your time and the efficiency of the results that they produce.

Rather than working harder, we can work smarter so that we may realize how much time we can save when we use time management practices. But the success of these techniques largely depends on how you appropriately follow your schedule. A person can tremendously reduce their stress levels when following some time management techniques.

Having A ?To Do? List

A basic aspect for effective time management is creating a ?To do? list. This can help you cope and deal with the problem of losing time frequently. It is not advisable, however, to have several ?To-do? list at once since it might lead to confusion. It is important that you place your list on a location that is easily visible for you. Hence, you will be able to consult the list right away on what your next task is supposed to be.

Prioritize

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Time Management than you may have first thought.

Another good method of time management is to handle daily tasks by prioritizing the more important tasks first. By doing this, you can then be able to separate the tasks that you need to do in accordance with their relevancy and significance. Then, you can deal with each tasks one at a time.

Saying ?No?

A very effective time management skill is the ability to say ?no? when other less important tasks and affairs are brought up to you and you have more important pending tasks. By learning how to turn them down, it reflects your commitment to follow your schedule and accomplish the task at hand. Once you have mastered how to effectively do this, you will save a lot of time in the future. Not only were you able to finish your tasks in time, but you’ve also opened more opportunities to accomplish more.

Time Will No Longer Be Your Enemy

Managing your time is important for several reasons. The most apparent reason is merely completing the job within the time frame you have alloted for it. It saves you from eating up the rest of the time needed for other useful tasks. For some, time is considered an enemy.

But getting yourself familiar with these time management techniques will enable you to enjoy your tasks as you do them, and quit worrying about time as a factor. After all, you cannot stop time from running; you have to keep up with it.

There might no be dramatic changes that comes with proper time management. However, it allows you to become more effective and productive as you continue to plan your days ahead.

Alzheimer’s, not just an old man’s disease

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Alzheimer’s disease, we’ve all hear of it but do we really understand the disease? According to statistics, there are about 350,000 new cases of Alzheimer’s disease diagnosed each year in the United States.

Doing the math, you could have more than 4.5 million Americans by the year 2050 that would be affected by the disease. A grimmer outlook indicates that by 2025, there will be 34 million people worldwide Alzheimer’s disease.

Let’s tackle the issue step by step. Alzheimer’s disease is a known brain disorder that is progressive and irreversible. It is still not known where and how the disorder develops in the human brain neither is there any sure fire cure for the disease. What is known by medical scientists is that the disease attacks slowly.

It takes its time, gnawing slowly at the victims’ minds stealing memories and causing deterioration of brain functions. Alzheimer’s is a disease that causes irreversible dementia and is always fatal.

It was German psychiatrist Dr. Alois Alzheimer who first identified the disease. At first he noted the disease’s symptoms as “amnestic writing disordear,” however when later studies were conducted Dr. Alzheimer found out that the symptoms were more than ordinary memory loss. It was far worse.

Dr. Alzheimer found the presence of neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques in the brain. The good doctor presented his findings which were accepted by the medical community. And soon enough, by 1910 the name of the disease was accepted and became known as Alzheimer’s disease.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

The most common early symptoms of the disease are confusion, being inattentive and have problems with orientation, personality changes, experiencing short-term memory loss, language difficulties and mood swings. Probably the most obvious and striking early symptom of Alzheimer’s is loss of short term memory.

At fist the victim will exhibits minor forgetfulness, but as the disease slowly progress he/she will start to forget a lot of things. However, older memories are oftentimes left untouched. Because of this, patients with Alzheimer’s will start to be less energetic and spontaneous. As the disease progress, they will have trouble learning new things and reacting on outside stimuli which gets them all confused and causes them to exercise poor judgment. This is considered Stage 1 of the disease.

At Stage 2 the patient will now need assistance in performing complicated tasks. Speech and understanding is evidently slower. At this stage, Alzheimer’s victims are already aware that they have the disease which causes a whole lot of problems like depression and restlessness.

At this point, only the distant past can be recalled and recent events are immediately forgotten. Patients will have difficulty telling time, date and where they are.

The final stage is of course the hardest, both for the patient and their family. At Stage 3 the patient will start to lose control of a lot of bodily functions like simple chewing and swallowing. He/she will start getting the needed nutrients through a tube. At Stage 3, the patient will no longer remember basically anyone.
They will lose bowel and bladder control and they will become vulnerable to third party infections and diseases like pneumonia.
Once the patient become bedridden, things will only get worse. Respiratory problems will become more terrible.

It is apparent that the patient will need constant care. At this point, the most one can do is to make sure that the patient stays as comfortable as possible. At the terminal stage, death is inevitable.
