In learning Spanish (or any language for that matter), beginners tend to make some unnecessary mistakes. Of course, it is natural to make mistakes because that is part of the learning process.

What is embarrassing is that committing them makes one sound less intelligent that one actually is. However, some of them can be avoided. The following are some mistakes that can be sidestepped.

Cognates

These are words that have the same form in both English and Spanish. Since both English and Spanish share many words derived from their Latin roots, it is not uncommon that these look-alike words have the same meaning.

Or not.

There are so many exceptions to this fact, and it should be a good idea to study a list of these false cognates and partial cognates. EMBARAZADA usually means ?pregnant? rather than the sound-alike ?embarrassed?. The Spanish VIOLADOR usually means a ?rapist?, and not just somebody who violates some traffic rules (violator).

Pronouns

In English, a sentence (with few exceptions) usually needs a subject.

In Spanish, that would not be altogether true. Where it can be understood by way of the context, the subject of a sentence (which is a pronoun in English) can be omitted. Usually, it IS omitted.

Normally, it is not ungrammatical to include the pronoun. Using it would sometimes make the sentence clunky, and invites attention.

Prepositions

This is tricky because prepositions in Spanish are challenging. Learning the purpose of prepositions is helpful, rather than banking solely on their translations. This can help in avoiding mistakes such as PIENSO ACERCA DE TI in place of PIENSO EN TI (I am thinking of you).

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Learn Spanish, keep reading.

Word orders

Except for placing adjectives after the noun they modify, it is not really bad to follow the English word order.

As you progress in your Spanish lessons, pay attention, however, to the many times where the subject is placed after the verb. You will notice changing the word order do change, however subtly, the meaning of a sentence.

This is the same case when some sentence construction in English where a preposition is sometimes placed at the end of a sentence. This should NOT be imitated in Spanish.

Idioms

All languages have their own idioms which sound perfect in their linguistic contexts. There is great danger in having these idioms translated into another language, whether from English to Spanish or vice-versa.

An example would be EN EL ACTO which means ?on the spot?. The word for word translation in Spanish would end up like EN EL SITIO and ?in the act? in English, which are both wrong.

Articles

Learn to use the commonly-needed articles (UN, UNA, EL, LA, LOS, LAS) in your sentences. Incorrectly using them will not keep you from being understood, but you will be marked as an awkward speaker.

(If it’s any consolation, this is the same problem of non-English speakers trying to use the articles A, AN and THE in their English sentences.)

Others

There are other mistakes that English speakers have to be aware of (and avoid, if possible) in polishing their Spanish. This would include not learning to use the subjunctive mood and ignoring proper pronunciation.

The biggest mistake, of course, is being afraid of making mistakes. They are part of the learning process, learning Spanish included. Spanish people will appreciate your attempts to speak correctly, and they don’t usually remember your mistakes.

There’s a lot to understand about Learn Spanish. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

When you think about Learn Spanish, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Learn Spanish are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

Some companies hire tutors for certain employees so they can learn Spanish for business dealings. You might also hire a tutor to get personal instruction. If you’re lucky enough to be able to get a one-on-one tutor to learn Spanish with, you should be able to progress quickly. This is even truer if you know how to take full advantage of your tutor’s knowledge.

When you first sit down with your tutor, before you begin to learn Spanish, ask about his/her background. Ask questions about where they grew up, where they went to school, where they have worked, and especially, what language they spoke in all of these situations.

Make sure the tutor you have selected has something to teach you. Think of it this way. You can learn something from anyone, but no one can teach you everything. Learn Spanish with someone who can come as close as possible.

Once you get a feel for where your tutor’s talents lie, you will be able to glean from their wisdom all they have to offer you. If the tutor has lived in a country that interests you, you will have a great resource to learn Spanish in that dialect. You can also learn about the culture of that country.

If the tutor has worked in a field that is similar to yours, that is helpful. It means that they will know technical words that you deal with every day. It also gives you something in common to talk about as you learn Spanish.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Show up on time to your tutoring sessions. If the tutoring takes place in your home, be there and ready for your lesson. Don’t make the tutor wait for you to finish watching a television program before you will begin to learn Spanish, for example. Besides that, you should offer a soda or coffee, since all the talking can dry out the mouth.

When you’re working with a tutor to learn Spanish, one advantage you have is that you can ask all the questions you want. Use this knowledge to the maximum. When you’re having your tutoring sessions, ask every question that pops into your mind.

Don’t let the questions end with the lessons, either. Keep jotting down your questions in between lessons so that they can be answered when you meet again. When you get the answers, write them down or record them. This kind of interaction makes you more involved and enthusiastic about your quest to learn Spanish.

After you’ve learned the basics with your tutor, make a list of things you need or would like to learn. If you work in a field with a lot of technical jargon or specialized tools, you can make a list of these words you need to know. Your tutor will help you learn Spanish names for the items on your list.

The right tutor can fulfill your need to learn Spanish with ease. Treat your tutor in a respectful way and you can expect to develop a strong working relationship. If you have a choice, opting to learn Spanish with a tutor is a wise move.

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

Many Spanish learners in their 40’s or 50’s notice that they find learning the language difficult, saying that the words don’t come to them easily and that the grammar rules are too much to plant in their minds. They say it’s their age. That had them started earlier in life, when their minds were still conditioned for fast learning, they could have had better chances to learn Spanish easily.

According to language pundits, the onset of puberty?age 12 to 14 particularly?is the optimum age for learning a new language. They assume that it is much easier to learn, and master for that matter, a foreign language at that age than it is in later years. But some argue against it, pointing out that it is not about the age but is all about commitment. The question now is, does age really matter? Or picking up the language simply has to be a condition of the mind?

Learning Spanish is not a walk in the park. Even for younger learners. And like learning to play piano or to cook, learning Spanish might be a little tougher for older learners. However, this is only a general scenario and should not be used to measure a person’s ability. Because even though many would agree that learning at an older age might spell learning difficulties, there are still a number of Spanish learners who testify that they have learned the language way past adolescence and are now actually good at it.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Learn Spanish now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

They say that when their minds were at the optimum stage to welcome a new language, their commitment and desire to learn were not as strong as when they were in their 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s. And they, therefore, were not as serious as when they were older, when they already had a genuine use and purpose for the language. In other words, they believe that although age is a contributing factor, motivation still counts as the most influential factor to a Spanish learner’s ability to learn the language.

That said, an older Spanish learner has no reason to be bothered by his age. Realistically, there would be tough times, but that is also the case for younger learners. That age is the central reason for having difficulty with the language is almost an immature excuse because if the learner is interested to learn?whatever his age is?he could downplay all the difficulties. The issue now here is how intense that interest is and how willing the learner is to be fluent in Spanish. If the learner has set his mind toward learning and mastering the language, there is no age issue to reconcile with in the first place.

The ability to learn Spanish easily, in other words, rests in the person’s attitude. The learning stage is tough by all accounts. No one would dare to contest that. But there are ways to minimize the difficulties, and it is the learner’s duty to find out which ways would work for him?no matter what his age is.

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about Learn Spanish, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about Learn Spanish.

There are already numerous studies showing the benefits of learning another language. In fact, starting young could even be better idea. According to studies at the Cornell Language Acquisition Lab (CLAL), teaching children another language would not create language confusion, language delay or even cognitive deficit. Learning Spanish may be the best idea for you and also your kids.

Why Spanish?

According to the recent census of the United States government (census.gov) about 49% of residents in California or Texas are Hispanic. About 330 million worldwide speak Spanish. Basically, the places of trade, politics, education and even culture have Spanish speaking communities. Learning how to converse in their native tongue would be able to help in increasing career and educational opportunities.

When a child or a teen starts to learn to a second language, it is not only the language they are learning, they are also catching a glimpse of the culture itself. This would make the child or the teen become more sensitive to other culture, appreciate internationalism, and enhances their social skills.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Learn Spanish than you may have first thought.

Language is strongly influenced by culture. Leaning how to speak Spanish would be able to help you identify with other’s culture. Spanish, Latin American culture is very rich. It could even become an opportunity for travelling. This would surely become a great help when shopping, visiting local restaurants and shops.

Spanish would even open up opportunities for learning other languages like French, Italian and other Latin-based languages. German and Russian language could also help you be easier for you to learn since Spanish shares the same Indo-European roots.
Aside from these, learning a second language could also help them meet their college application requirements. Data from the Admission Testing Program of the College Board in the United States showed that those who have second language programs have higher mean scores in their SAT examinations compared to those who do not have any second language education.

If you are already working, learning Spanish could even increase your marketability. A second language could be very appealing to employers. Some employers would increase the salary and promote those who have Spanish language knowledge. There is a research that showed that there are 17% of individuals employed every year because of their bilingualism. These employees can earn about 30% more than their co-workers.

They would be redirected to jobs where these skills could be put into action. For employers, having employees that could speak Spanish would enable them to connect to an increasing market, the Spanish, Latin American and Mexican communities. It could also mean deployment to other locations. If you know how to speak Spanish, then you do not have to get worried about the language barrier whenever it is travelling or job deployment.

Overall, learning how to speak Spanish is a great experience. You could start learning by attending classes at the local district or community college, you could even get online lessons. There are great online language schools which could easily fit into your schedule especially if you are working or raising a family. Learning Spanish or any second language could be time consuming and we should be prepared for that.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Learn Spanish in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Learning a new language, or any new thing in general, is much easier today than it was in the past decades. Back then, if you want to learn how to speak Spanish, you need to enroll in a physical school. Presently, learning can be done anywhere the learner feels comfortable with. Because of the technological advancement, learning methods and set-ups have been significantly improved to meet the varying needs and demands of individual learners. And this same technological advancement resulted in the following situations, which altogether make learning Spanish today very timely:

1. Learning Spanish is more affordable.
You don’t have to spend too much money when learning Spanish because you don’t need to pay for special classes or hire a special tutor like before. Now, you have the option to buy a CD or software program, which wasn’t available then, and learn the language without shelling out lots of money. This CD has everything you need to learn Spanish, but if you do find the need to gather supplemental learning aids, you can search the Internet for free lessons and guides.

2. Learning tools are available in various formats.
Books were the only reliable learning tools before. But thanks to technological innovations, learning tools are now in digital formats to make learning interesting. Audio and video lessons, for instance, are preferred by many Spanish learners. Compared to a book, these learning tools are more interactive, which makes them especially helpful in mastering pronunciation, where you need to learn the exact sound and inflection of a given word. With a book, you have to rely to the pronunciation guides, and unless you are supervised by a tutor, you might have troubles with reading them right. In audio and video lessons, however, you get to hear from a native Spanish speaker and learn the right pronunciation straightaway.

The information about Learn Spanish presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Learn Spanish or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

3. Learning can be online.
The Internet being a widely useful tool for learning Spanish is one of the many advantages of the present day. Presently, classes can be done through online tutorials and virtual classrooms. And this means three things: you don’t need to commute or drive to a physical school, you get to study at the comforts of your own home, and you have extra time to allot to learning the language. The other good thing about online classes is that they require shorter time to finish, a plus factor for busy Spanish learners.

4. Learning can be done at your own pace.
The new approaches to learning Spanish allow you to study at your preferred time and therefore at your own pace. If you want to study past midnight, you can do so. If you like to do it very early in the morning while jogging, you can listen to your mp3 lessons. If you want to stop reading and resume at a later time, no problem. Learning is under your control. And in this case, there are no pressures to bug you, making the learning process more effective.

5. Learning is tailored for all ages.
The saying ?Age doesn’t matter? also applies in learning Spanish. Whatever your age, whatever your reason for learning, there are lessons and learning methods appropriate for you. There are those that help you with the basics and others that would introduce you to the advance Spanish language skill. The thing is, whatever stage you are in your language learning experience, there is always something that will enable you to learn to speak Spanish fluently.

It’s a very good idea to learn Spanish in today’s world. When a person learns Spanish, they gain the ability to obtain a better cultural understanding. Learning Spanish also creates more job opportunities.

Many people of different cultural origins are constantly migrating to the United States, and the increase of people of Spanish speaking origin has created a lot of diversity in the country. However, with an increase of Spanish speaking people comes an increase in the amount of people who do not know English. Therefore, it is essential that many people entering the work world learn to speak Spanish.

When a person looking for a job knows two more languages, such as English and Spanish, he or she becomes more valuable to the job market. Only so many people can speak Spanish and English. Therefore, there is less competition.

The information about Learn Spanish presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Learn Spanish or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

Also, a person who has learned to speak Spanish can make an employers life much easier. For instance, some industries thrive on attracting all members of the community to buy their products, including those who don’t know English. For instance, an industry that needs to get all of the community buying its products is insurance. Everyone needs car insurance, health insurance, and life insurance. The only way to tell a person who only speaks Spanish about insurance is to speak Spanish. For this reason, many professionals who work in the insurance industry in the U.S are discovering that they need to learn Spanish themselves or employee someone who is willing to learn Spanish.

Furthermore, often people who work generally in sales need to learn some way to increase and enhance their communication abilities. Sales is all about communicating with people. The best way to communicate is to make sure that everyone is able to understand one’s message. For these reasons, many companies offer to pay for classes that might help one learn Spanish. These classes can be taken at night, and may be completed in about a year to two years.

Once a person has learned Spanish, and is able to bring their ability to their place of employment, many opportunities may open up. For instance, learning Spanish creates job opportunities in the medical and customer service related fields. Also, management may offer travel opportunities to employees who have learned to speak Spanish, and a person who has learned Spanish may find themselves getting promoted to positions that require them to use their new Spanish speaking skill. Employees could become ambassadors or key speakers at meetings.

To learn Spanish is to gain many opportunities in the world of work. In a nutshell, learning Spanish can be a way for a person to increase their income and likelihood of having constant opportunities for employment.

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Learn Spanish is certainly no exception.

Spanish has about 400 million speakers worldwide. Adults, as well as children and teens, are now beginning to understand the benefits of speaking and learning Spanish. Learning a second language has its benefits. There are different institutions who have established the link of cognitive and personal development to second language learning. In fact, The New York Times reported in 2007 that learning different languages could delay dementia in elderly patients.

But how early can children start learning another language? Before, parents would express concern about introducing another language. Their primary concern is that it could cause confusion and delay in the child’s development. However, recent studies showed that children, even toddlers, were able to develop stronger minds when learning second language.

According to the Cornell Language Acquisition Lab’s (CLAL) research, there are no negative effects on a child if they learn a second language. Bilingual children are more attentive and focused compare with monolingual children. In a study conducted by Ellen Bialystok in 1997, four and five-year-old bilingual children show better understanding of symbolic representation in print than monolingual children. Younger children, according to studies, have greater ability to learn and acquire language. They learn easily compared with adults.

Teens who have knowledge of foreign language show higher mean scores for their college applications according to the College Entrance Examination Board. Those who have knowledge of four or more years of another language would usually get higher scores on the verbal section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.). Children also developed better listening skills since it is important when learning proper pronunciation.

The best time to learn about Learn Spanish is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Learn Spanish experience while it’s still free.

With all these benefits, how do you start teaching your child another language? If you are planning to teach your kid Spanish at home, it would be best to talk to the child’s teacher first, if he or she is already going to school. The teacher may be able to recommend methods on how you can proceed with the lessons. They can even provide you some useful resources and materials.

You could start by reading to them. Reading to children will help them get an idea about the new words and associate them with pictures, helping children to grasp the new meanings easily. You could read English and Spanish books alternately during week nights.

Teaching children to speak another language could be boring especially if they would only be doing flashcard exercises and book reading. It could be monotonous and they may lose interest. You could start by making it interesting by playing interactive games. What’s great is that recently, there are children’s shows which enable children to learn languages. There are board and computer games which could cater to every child’s interest.

Learning Spanish would help children become more sensitive to other culture and learn a lot from them. You could do it the other way around. To encourage children to learn Spanish, you could start by introducing them to different Spanish music and dances. You could even have a Spanish themed-meal at home or take them out to dinner and let them order their Spanish food.

Many school curriculums require students to take a language. The requirement is so popular that not only does it exist on the college level, but also the middle school and even the elementary school level. It is assumed that it would be useful to learn another language besides one’s native tongue, but many times young students ask themselves if they should really be required to learn other languages.

For instance, as a student begins to learn Spanish in elementary school, he or she may have a lot of fun with his or her teacher, doing colorful worksheets and playing nice games. They may win a couple of prizes for their great amount of participation in the class. However, these elementary students will only get a basic understanding of the language at most.

Then, as that same student progresses, he may find himself choosing to learn Spanish again to fulfill his or her middle school language requirement. He or she may perhaps gain a more intermediate understanding of the language. They may find out that now they can put a few conversations together. As they continue to learn Spanish for a few more semesters, they may understand how to write a few paragraphs in the language. However, students at this level will only rise to the medium levels of grasping the language. They may get all A’s in the class and attain some good compliments from the teacher, but there’s a good chance that they will lack fluency in the language.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

A student reaching high school may choose to learn Spanish again in order to fulfill a language requirement there. Of course, this type of student will become more advanced in speaking Spanish. They will learn to say all kinds of things such as, “where is the bathroom?” They may learn the vocabulary for an entire wardrobe and the may get down the words that fit with everything they make for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When the teacher says “good morning” in class, happily they will be able to answer her back. Short verbs such “is” “are” and “where” will be effortless to them, but will they be fluent in the language? Probably not.

These students usually do not gain fluency as they learn Spanish because the classes are just not that advanced and they do not last for a long enough time. Often, in high school, a Spanish class can last for a year, but the class might not be taught daily. Even if the class is taught daily, the lure to take some real time off from learning Spanish during the summer months is just too enticing. If the process of learning Spanish is stopped during the three month summer period, it could cause a student to forget the majority of what he or she learned during class time.

Even in college, students normally will learn Spanish or another language only until they get the requirement filled. Then they stop all together, never becoming fluent even after investing all of that previous time in learning the language. Since most students do not become fluent in the language, later in life they find themselves being grateful for leaning Spanish only because they were in a Spanish restaurant one day and luckily they remembered how to read the menu.

Therefore, it would seem that it is not that useful to learn Spanish or another language as a school requirement. If is useful, it may only be to those students who combine learning language in a formal classroom with outside learning as well. Outside learning might include practicing speaking Spanish with a friend or attending Spanish cultural events. By combing different methods of learning Spanish, students might stand a better chance of becoming fluent.

Learning Spanish can be fun and interesting. It can make you comfortable in situations where you would be lost without knowing the language. Yet, not everyone has the desire to learn Spanish. These people have several reasons for their reluctance.

Some people feel that they are too old to learn Spanish. They realize that children learn language faster than anyone else. This makes them hesitant to even try. They think it’s a lost cause, so why even try?

Actually, people of all ages can learn Spanish. It is true that the young are better language learners. However, as has been said, “There’s always someone better than you and someone worse.” Just because you can’t be the best, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Maybe you will learn Spanish better than most adults if you only try.

People often decline to learn Spanish because they think that they won’t be traveling to any Spanish speaking countries in their lifetimes. First of all, you never know what’s around the corner. You could even win a trip to such a country. You never know what might take you there.

Second, there are reasons to learn Spanish even if you never speak a word of it. You can enjoy Spanish literature and movies. You can take pride in knowing the words to songs that others can only stumble through. You can watch Spanish language news and learn Spanish politics and culture. It can be a fun pastime.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Learn Spanish now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

For some, it seems like a monumental task to learn Spanish. They believe it will be one of the hardest things they ever do. They don’t want to work so hard at something voluntarily. They feel that Spanish is a hard language to learn.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Spanish is one of the easiest languages. In Spanish, if you know what a word sounds like, you almost always know how it’s spelled. If you know how it’s spelled, you can pronounce it easily.

Some of the words of Spanish are in common use in the vocabulary of most Americans. Others are just slight variations. Of course, you will have to deal with gender of nouns, which is actually easy. Verb conjugations are harder, but still are easy to understand if taught properly. If you want to learn Spanish, you probably can.

Money is a stumbling block for some people. They feel that to learn Spanish they must shell out a huge amount of money to schools and teachers. They know they aren’t that well off, so they give up.

Although there are expensive ways to learn Spanish, there are less expensive ways as well. Some community classes are very nearly free. If you like, you can check out books to learn Spanish from your local library. Some libraries even carry language learning CD’s as well.

If you’re negative, you can always find a reason not to do something. However, if you’re positive minded, you can learn Spanish without a lot of difficulty or expense. You only have to make up your mind that you want to do it.

Sometimes it’s tough to sort out all the details related to this subject, but I’m positive you’ll have no trouble making sense of the information presented above.

It’s nice when you get a chance to take a trip abroad. If you are going to a Spanish speaking country, it might be a little intimidating to get off the beaten path and explore. Just making yourself at home in hotels and restaurants can be quite a task if you’re unprepared. That’s why it’s good to learn Spanish phrases to get you by.

Of course, if you have time to take a full Spanish course, that’s preferable. Learning to speak conversational Spanish will make your stay among the local people much more pleasant. You can communicate most ideas if you learn Spanish in this way.

However, you may not have the time to learn Spanish thoroughly. You may have been invited on the trip unexpectedly. You may have won the trip and have to take it in a short amount of time. Or, perhaps you had plenty of notice, but had too busy of a schedule to fit in a full course to learn Spanish properly.

It doesn’t matter why you’re in this position; the crux of the matter is that you need to learn Spanish enough to handle your basic needs. You will probably find English speaking people somewhere on your journey to speak with. However, there will be times when you must depend upon Spanish speaking people to answer important questions.

You can find phrasebooks to help you find the words to ask for basic needs. They will tell you how to introduce yourself and say please and thank you. You will learn Spanish phrases for asking the time and weather.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

More importantly, these books will tell you how to ask where the restroom is. You will learn Spanish phrases like “Ayudame!” meaning “Help me!” Most of the books will also tell you how to ask where you can find a doctor or dentist.

Phrasebooks can also be helpful with the hotel you’re staying at. They can tell you how to ask for clean linens. You can learn Spanish phrases that make it easier to order room service. You will also know how to check into and out of your hotel.

The books will tell you the basics of how to order food in a restaurant. They will tell you any number of words to use in different situations. A book like this should also contain valuable information like how to ask where the US embassy is.

If you are concerned about your pronunciation, you can get the same type of phrase manuals on CD’s. Just pop them into your CD player and repeat after the speaker. You can do this in your car, at your computer, or in your living room. Wherever you find comfortable will do.

A book or CD like this can help you learn Spanish phrases. What it can’t do is help you understand the answers. You will have to rely on a lot of pointing and gesturing. Also, never forget, if you think you might be able to understand the person, if they would speak slower, just say, “mas despacio.” It works wonders.

When word gets around about your command of Learn Spanish facts, others who need to know about Learn Spanish will start to actively seek you out.
